A step-by-step guide to collecting rent online via UPI — payment links, QR codes, receipts, and how to keep a clean record.
Collecting rent in cash leads to disputes, missed payments and no paper trail. Collecting rent online via UPI is faster, traceable and what most Indian tenants already prefer. Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Set up UPI collection
Use your UPI ID or a rent management app that generates a payment link and QR code for each tenant. Tenants can then pay from any UPI app — PhonePe, Google Pay or Paytm.
Step 2: Share a payment link or QR
Send each tenant a personal link or QR with the amount due. With software like Rentrm, the link is attached to the bill so the payment is automatically matched.
Step 3: Record and receipt every payment
Each payment should be logged against the right month with an instant receipt for both sides. This removes "I already paid" disputes and gives you a clean ledger.
Full and partial payments tracked separately
Running balance after each payment
Automatic receipt shared on WhatsApp
Step 4: Automate reminders
Set a due date per tenant and let the system send reminders before and after it. Most late rent is simply forgotten, not refused — reminders fix that.
Manage your rentals the easy way
Generate bills, collect rent over UPI and send automatic reminders with Rentrm.
